Chandeliers

   Chandeliers are ceiling mounted light fixtures that incorporate multiple arms into their designs.  Some form of lighting, either candles or electric lights, are attached to these arms.  Chandeliers have been in use since as early as medieval times.

As the centuries progressed, chandeliers became more elaborate.  Developments in glassmaking and the widespread use of gas light in the nineteenth century broadened the appeal and use of chandeliers.  The advent of electricity was used to full effect in dramatic chandeliers.

Chandeliers come in a wildly diverse range of styles.  Chandeliers often reflect the tastes and technical illumination capabilities of the times.  Some chandeliers demonstrate restraint in their elegant simplicity while other chandeliers are highly elaborate pieces that are extreme in their scale and weight.
